Large manufacturers, medium-sized vendors and small entrepreneurs unveil cool, innovative products each day. The problem for retailers is trying to figure out which ones will attract customers, fill a niche, lead to other product and service sales, and generate enough margin to justify all the other things. Here are several new products found at recent trade shows that are definitely cool and interesting: 1. Iogear's Andre Liu recently added audio to its wireless streaming kit (MSRP $329), which is now shipping and aimed at the home and small office. 2. Wellcom's Mark Shin holds the new iConnPlus iPhone case (MSRP $79.99), which includes an additional battery for the iPhone 3G. 3. Emtec's Brent Kovalsky demonstrates the company's latest Gdium Liberty 1000, a flash-based netbook, that retails for about $349.

A look at some of the more interesting products in the market

The problem for retailers is trying to figure out which ones will attract customers, fill a niche, lead to other product and service sales, and generate enough margin to justify all the other things.

Here are several new products we found at recent trade shows that are definitely cool and interesting. It's up to the dealers and vendors to see if the products meet the other criteria. Either way, they're worth taking a look at.

1. Iogear's Andre Liu. The company recently added audio to its wireless streaming kit (MSRP $329), which is now shipping and aimed at the home and small office.

2. Wellcom's Mark Shin holds the new iConnPlus iPhone case (MSRP $79.99), which includes an additional battery for the iPhone 3G

3. Howard Borenstein shows off Neat Receipts new NeatDesk scanner. The new form factor is a great improvement over earlier generations.

4. Dick Brown of TuneBug demonstrates the new Quake, a device that turns a motorcycle helmet into a speaker. Other versions include the Vibe, which turns table and other surfaces into speakers and Shake, which accepts a microSD card.

5. Canson's Giulia Giovanelli demos Canson PaperShow (MSRP about $175 for the starter kit), a digital writing kit for interactive presentations.

6. Dan Power shows off the SmartSwipe home device, which encrypts credit card data before it enters a PC.

7. Emtec's Brent Kovalsky demonstrates the company's latest Gdium Liberty 1000, a flash-based netbook, that retails for about $349. The unit, which is designed primarily to allow users to access the Internet and share information, has a 10-inch screen and runs on the B-Key, a USB flash drive that contains the OS and more than 50 Open Source applications, including word processing, spread sheets, Firebox Web browser, Thunderbird e-mail, VoIP, back-up and security programs, AV players and photo editing.

8. Mark Kuta highlights SanDisk's new Ultra Backup USB flash drive, a one-touch backup device aimed at road warriors that also provides secure file encryption. The device has an embedded user interface designed to make it easier for users to choose what they want to back up. It comes in 8, 16, 32 and 64GB versions, with prices ranging from $49 to $199.
